Roundtable between UN Special Rapporteurs,
Civil Society Organizations and Local Governments
United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) organized a Roundtable between United Nations Special Rapporteurs (Extreme Poverty and human rights, Violence against women, Environmental Rights, Food), civil society organizations and local governments along with Habitat International Coalition (HIC) and the Global Platform of the Right to the City (GPR2C) on February 3rd.
This dialogue aimed to share the key priorities on the agendas of each Special rapporteurs as well as identify existing and potential mechanisms for civil society, local/regional governments and Special rapporteurs to work together.
As a representative of Gwangju Metropolitan City, a Human Rights City and co-president of UCLG Committee on social inclusion, SHIN Gyonggu (Senior Advisor of Human Rights & International Affairs of Gwangju Metropolitan City), shared Gwangju’s experience to build and strengthen the international movement of human rights cities for more than 10 years and the ways of collaboration between local governments and international organizations such as Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN OHCHR) and UNESCO. He also put emphasis on the importance of cooperation with UN special rapporteurs within the World Human Rights Cities Forum for the future.
