More than 20,000 people have been reported killed by the devastating earthquake in the areas of northern Syria and southern Türkiye. Continued aftershocks and the strong cold have made the rescue and recovery efforts more challenging, and the number of deaths and injuries continues to increase. Many victims are still believed to be trapped in the rubble.
Syria, in particular, has been receiving little outside aid, and its infrastructure has been stagnant as a result of the long civil war, causing more severe damage, as well as lack in rescue workers and equipment.
Gwangju International Center will be delivering donations to “The White Helmets”, Syria Civil Defence team helping Syrian victims, through the international development and relief organization “The Promise” (thepromise.or.kr).
We encourage you to send hope and compassion to the Syrian people affected by the earthquake.
