The 11th World Human Rights Cities Forum Pre-Forum & Day 1

The World Human Rights Cities Forum has officially started online today through the live broadcast on our website (http://www.whrcf.org/en). Despite the spread of COVID-19, the latest technologies made it possible for us to gather online and commence productive discussions on how to overcome challenges such as climate crisis and pandemics by finding solutions based on human-rights-approaches.

Opening Concert of the World Human Rights Cities Forum was held online. Percussion Group Eolsu, GIC Musicians, and GIC Choir had shown a marvelous performance by healing the citizens' souls in the times of the 'Corona Blues'.

During the Global Charter-Agenda for HR in the City Session, we listened to human rights perspectives by local government in the Asia Pacific region including Dobong-gu & Daejeon (South Korea), Semarang (Indonesia), Baguio (The Philippines).

During the Opening Ceremony, António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General emphasized that the cities experiencing new challenges play a central role in building the future and moving forward together. Michelle Bachelet, the UN Human Rights High Commissioner called for a new social contract to rebuild public trust through human rights protection and promotion. Gabriela Ramos, the Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, highlighted that creating networks of support is the way to ensure human rights remain protected amid challenging times.
