What's New on the 11th World Human Rights Cities Forum 2021

The World Human Rights Cities Forum (hereinafter the ‘WHRCF’), will be held from October 7th to 10th under the theme of “Human Rights in Times of Challenge: A New Social Contract” as a online conference.


The 11th WHRCF will contribute to the understanding of the challenges confronted in times of crisis such as the global COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, etc., and explore the ways for human rights cities to build resilient communities.


In the Plenary sessions, human rights policies implemented by local and regional governments in times of global crisis will be shared and the ways to take a step further for the action-oriented policy recommendations will be discussed. In addition, various issues and tasks on human rights, including Right to Food, Refugees, Peace and Human Rights, will be examined during the Thematic sessions. Other than that, about 50 online and offline sessions will be organized, including Act on Human Rights Policy, Blended Learning Course on Local Governments and Human Rights, etc.


What we can expect new this year is the Pre-Forum. The participation will be available online, and it consists of 9 programs, including ‘WHRCF Opening Concert: Human X Human’, ‘Human Rights Paper Presentation Session’ and ‘UNESCO City Art-Lab’.


The 11th WHRCF will be co-hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City, UNESCO, UN OHCHR, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and Korea International Cooperation Agency, and co-organized by Gwangju International Center, UCLG Committee on Human Rights, Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights.
