The 11th World Human Rights Cities Forum was selected as the “Call for Projects of the Local Attraction International Event 2021”, which is to foster sustainable international events held in Korea by utilizing the tourism contents of the region such as industry, culture and environment.

This year has been the third consecutive year for the World Human Rights Cities Forum to be selected for the projects of the Korea Tourism Organization following the “Call for Projects of the Local Specialization Covention Promotion” in 2019 and the “Call for Projects of the Meeting Technology” in 2020.

The World Human Rights Cities Forum was highly regarded for its consistency in regional identity, potential of globalization, and sustainability. Therefore, it will receive the consulting on MICE commercialization and promotion by the Korea Tourism Organization.

As part of the regional-specific program, this year's forum plans to proceed a "Gwangju Human Rights Policy Tour" to introduce human rights policies of Gwangju to local government officials in the Asia-Pacific region and a "Human Rights Dark Tour" for foreigners who are living in Korea and interested in the history of the May 18 Democratic Movement.

This year’s forum will be held for 4 days under the theme of “Human Rights in Times of Challenge: A New Social Contract” from October 7th to October 10th at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju, South Korea.

It is co-hosted by the Gwangju Metropolitan City, UNESCO, UN OHCHR, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and is co-organized by the UCLG Committee on Human Rights (UCLG-CSIPDHR), the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI), and the Gwangju International Center (GIC).
